Crime Scene Evidence The West Jordan Crime Scene Unit consists of two crime scene technicians who respond to various crime scenes throughout the city. Between the two of them, their educations include a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Forensic Science Degree and a Criminology and Corrections Certification. Their training also includes The Utah State Crime Scene Academy and National Forensic Academy.

West Jordan Crime Scene Technicians are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When called out to assist at a crime scene, their duties may include a crime scene survey, documentation and diagramming, crime scene photography, collection and preservation of evidence, detection, recovery and examination of footwear and tire wear impression evidence, use of alternate light sources, composite sketching and latent print detection and development using various chemical and powder techniques. In order to keep up on the latest forensic techniques and technologies, training for the West Jordan Crime Scene Unit is ongoing.
The crime scene unit is responsible for processing video and photograph requests for the city, police department and the public. Public requests are received by the West Jordan Police Records Division at 801-256-2000, and requests are then forwarded to the crime scene unit to be completed. There is a fee of $25.00 for each copy of a video or a set of photographs. Once the request has been completed, the records division will notify the requestor.
