  Court Security/Bailiff

Court security is provided by the West Jordan Police Department. The bailiff is a certified police officer who is responsible for security and control of the courtroom, as well as escorting prisoners to and from the WJPD holding facility.

Court Procedures
  • All persons are subject to search before entering the courtroom or at other times, if necessary;
  • The court has ruled that only sworn police officers are allowed to carry weapons into the courtroom;
  •  Firearms, knives, pepper spray or other objects which could be used as weapons may be confiscated.
  • If you are lawfully permitted to carry a firearm (other than sworn police officers), it must be surrendered to the police department or court bailiff.
  • If you are not lawfully permitted to carry a firearm, it will be confiscated, and you will be placed under arrest;
  • Persons in possession of any illegal weapon (including certain knives) are also subject to arrest;
  • No cameras, tape recorders, or television equipment is permitted in the courtroom without the express consent of the judge;
  • Proper attire is required in the courtroom. No hats, cutoffs, or tank tops. Shoes must be worn at all times.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the courtroom.
  • No small children are allowed in the courtroom.
  • The bailiff can answer questions pertaining to the court and police procedures, but cannot advise on the law.
  • If you wish to speak to the judge, contact the bailiff, who will contact the court clerk.
  • Prisoners are not allowed to speak with anyone in the courtroom, other than their attorneys.
  • When court is in session, all persons present are to remain silent during the proceedings

The court is concerned for the safety of all those who enter the courtroom, and your efforts in maintaining a civil and obedient demeanor in the courtroom is greatly appreciated.
