  Animal Control Services

Microchipping is a permanent way to identify your pet. The microchip is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades of the animal. All found animals are scanned upon entering the animal shelter. When scanned, a nine digit number is displayed if the microchip is through AVID and a ten digit number is displayed if the microchip is through Home Again. The microchip company will have the owner's information only if the owner has registered with them. Otherwise the company will have the name of the agency where the chip was implanted. This agency will have the animal owner's information and will be able to reunite the owner with their pet. The cost for a microchip through the shelter is $15.00.

Cremation (West Jordan Residents Only)
Cremation has always been a way of memorializing a loved one. For this reason, many people have wanted their pets cremated, but have not been able to so because of high costs. The City of West Jordan provides this service through the Animal Shelter, making pet cremation more affordable for its citizens.

Individual Cremation
Private cremation means that your pet is cremated separate from any other animals. The remains are then collected and returned to you. This method ensures that 100% of the remains are from your pet.

Costs for Individual Cremation

0-25 lbs $25.00
26-50 lbs $50.00
51-75 lbs $75.00
76-100 lbs $100.00
101-Over $125.00

Animal Turnover
The City of West Jordan encourages owners who want to have their animals readopted to turn them over to the Humane Society or contact an animal rescue group. Our primary focus as a government-run institution is to assist with lost or stray animals within the community.

Owners with animals that have grown old, are terminally ill, or otherwise unmanageable because of aggressive behavior are asked to contact a veterinarian for euthanasia. The city will provide this service if the animal is licensed with the city and under certain circumstances. The fee for this is $34.00 for animals weighing 50 pounds or less and $38.00 for animals weighing 51 pounds or more. The fee includes disposal.
