 Sprinkler system

Irrigation systems make watering lawns and gardens easier and save you time. However, they require special equipment to prevent contaminated water from siphoning back into home plumbing and City water systems. Irrigation systems not protected by approved backflow prevention assemblies endanger the health of households, neighborhoods, and the whole community.

As of January 2006, Double Check Valve Assemblies (DC) are no longer allowed in any irrigation systems.
All irrigation systems  new or existing  must be equipped with a State Health Department approved backflow prevention assembly. Only properly installed, state-approved backflow prevention assemblies meet the current plumbing code and provide protection for the health of your family and neighbors. These assemblies require yearly testing to ensure they are working properly. The City's Public Works Department can give you a free list of state-certified testers or you can review the State Division of Drinking Water website.

Review the following state-approved prevention assemblies and devices and instructions on their proper installation:
    RP Assembly
    PVB Assembly
    AVB Assembly
