Duties of the Mayor
As chairman of the City Council, the mayor presides at all City Council meetings and has a vote during the proceedings. The mayor represents the city in all its external relationships with the state, county and other political organizations. The mayor can also serve as a spokesperson for the City Council and presides at ceremonial activities like ribbon-cuttings, open houses, receptions and more.
The mayor does not engage in the day-to-day operation of the city but works closely with the city manager to see that the City Council's policies and direction are implemented.
